The Central Lagoon of Messolonghi
It is an open type lagoon and its area is estimated at 68.500m2. It is directly influenced by the sea and its limitation from the open sea is formed by natural sand dunes and fish barriers. It has an average depth of 0,60 m and a maximum depth of 1,5 m. It is part of the Messolonghi-Etoliko lagoon complex, which is bounded by the Evinos River, the Acheloos River, the Ionian Sea to the west and the Gulf of Patras to the south.
At the front of the Central Lagoon there are six fish farms-fishing sites: Vasiladi, Diaylos, Komma, Prokopanistos, Schinias and Turlida. All the fish farms are of traditional type.
